Sin is deadly

“So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to inquire of it; And inquired not of the LORD: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse”  1 Chronicles 10:13-14

The price of sin is deadly. All our actions have consequences. In the case of Saul, we see that he lost everything because of sin. He dabbled in witchcraft by seeking counsel from familiar spirits. Saul persistently disobeyed God and he did not ask God for directions on how to rule Israel. He disobeyed God.

As christians, we need to strive hard for holy and righteous living. If we ask God for the grace to live above sin, He will answer us. It is possible because “…with God all things are possible.

In the old testament, people were immediately punished when they sinned, these punishemnts were mostly death. However, in this dispensation of grace, the death punishment for sinners refers to eternal death in the sense that people who sin will not spend eternity with God. Remember what Romans 6:23 says, “The wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”.
